This cookie policy explains what cookies are, how Decoroom (the “site,” “we,” “us” or “our”) uses them on this website, and what choices you have. Throughout this policy, “you” or “your” refers to visitors using the site from the United Kingdom. We adopt this policy to comply with UK data protection laws (including the UK GDPR and PECR) and to be transparent about how cookies operate on our website.

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. Cookies enable a website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login information, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re entering them whenever you come back to the site. Cookies can be placed by the website you are visiting (“first party cookies”) or by third party services integrated into that website (“third party cookies”). Cookies may last only for the duration of your browsing session (“session cookies”) or remain on your device until they expire or you delete them (“persistent cookies”).

How we use Cookies

Decoroom’s website is built on WordPress.  We use a small number of first‑party cookies to make the site function properly, remember whether you have consented to cookies and, if you interact with certain features (such as leaving a comment or logging into the administrative dashboard), to remember your preferences. We do not use cookies for advertising or marketing purposes, and—at the time of writing—we are not running any third‑party analytics or behavioural‑tracking tools on the site.  If this changes, we will update this policy accordingly.

Types of Cookies we set

The cookies used on this site fall into the following categories:

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for technical reasons and enable core website functionality. Without them, parts of the site would not work. They include:

Cookie‑consent cookie.  We display a small banner to let you know that our site uses cookies. When you click the “OK?” link on the banner, a script sets a cookie called cookie_notice_accepted with the value yes and an expiration of 30 days. This cookie is used by the Cookie Notice plugin for WordPress to record that you have dismissed the banner so that you don’t see it again. It is a first‑party, functional cookie.

WordPress test cookie.  WordPress sets a cookie named wordpress_test_cookie to check whether your browser allows cookies.  It is a session cookie that is deleted when you close your browser. The Cookie database notes that this cookie’s function is to read whether cookies can be placed, and Automattic’s cookie policy explains that it “checks if cookies are enabled to provide appropriate user experience”. It does not collect personal information.

Preference (functional) cookies

These cookies remember information you enter on the site and help us provide a more personalised experience. They are not essential but improve usability.

Commenter cookies.  If we enable comments on our blog or journal, WordPress places cookies named comment_author_{hash}, comment_author_email_{hash} and comment_author_url_{hash} when you leave a comment.  They store your name, email address and (optionally) your website URL so that you don’t have to re‑enter them the next time you comment.  These cookies fall under the “preferences” category.  The Cookiedatabase explains that comment_author_email_* stores user preferences and has a one‑year expiration period. Similar cookies for the author name and URL have the same purpose and duration.

Performance and analytics cookies

We currently do not use any analytics services (such as Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel) and therefore do not set performance or analytics cookies. Should we adopt analytics tools in the future, we will list the cookies and explain their purposes here. These cookies would only be set if such third‑party services are added.

Advertising cookies

Decoroom does not run advertising or personalised marketing on this site. Consequently, we do not use advertising cookies.

How to manage Cookies

You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish.  Most web browsers allow you to: (1) view what cookies are stored on your device; (2) clear all or individual cookies; and (3) block cookies from specific sites or from all websites altogether.  If you remove or disable cookies, however, certain features of our website may not function correctly (for example, you may continue to see the cookie banner on each visit, or you may be unable to log into your account).

The following links explain how to adjust your browser settings on popular browsers:

Google Chrome:  Menu → Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
Mozilla Firefox:  Menu → Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
Apple Safari:  Safari → Preferences → Privacy.
Microsoft Edge:  Settings → Cookies and site permissions.

You may also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt‑out Browser Add‑on (if we adopt analytics in the future).

Changes to this policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time—for example, if we start using additional cookies or integrate third‑party services. When we make changes, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of the policy and, where appropriate, notify you via our website.
