Case Study

Journal / Onslow Gardens; Bringing bespoke elegance to a prime London residence

When Decoroom was approached by K&H Design to stage a luxury three-bedroom apartment on the prestigious Onslow Gardens in Kensington, the brief was clear: a sophisticated blend of timeless elegance and contemporary design. The client had a strong vision for the space. They sought an elevated, tailored interior that would complement the apartment’s classical proportions, while exuding a modern sense of calm and refined luxury. At Decoroom, we specialise in working closely to a brief — but we never lose sight of the distinct Decoroom aesthetic: refined yet bold, understated yet memorable. Every project is an opportunity to create a unique visual narrative, and Onslow Gardens was no exception.

Understanding the architecture

Set within a quintessential white-stucco-fronted townhouse, the apartment offered high ceilings, original cornicing, and elegant sash windows that flooded the rooms with natural light. The bones of the space called for a scheme that respected its heritage, while speaking directly to the expectations of a prime Central London buyer.

The creative process

We began by unpacking the client’s vision: they wanted clean lines, a neutral palette, and spaces that felt considered without being overly decorated. Texture, light, and proportion became the foundation of our creative direction.

Each room was treated with individual attention, while maintaining a cohesive flow throughout the apartment. We anchored the living space with a linen sofa and paired it with tactile Pierre Jeanneret style armchair, setting a tone of effortless sophistication. A large-scale abstract artwork introduced tonal interest without overpowering the calm palette. We had this commissioned by Formworks for this project.

The master bedroom was designed as a sanctuary — layered linens, warm neutral tones, and bespoke upholstered headboards brought softness and balance. Subtle metallic accents in lighting and accessories added quiet glamour. In the guest bedrooms, we took the opportunity to inject a more contemporary edge through curated colour accents and bold geometric cushions.

Striking a balance

While the brief leaned toward minimalism, we focused on warmth and memorability. Our design choices were intentionally restrained but never sterile. We introduced custom furniture and accessories with character: handcrafted ceramics, textured wall hangings, and statement coffee table books — the types of finishing touches that elevate a space from simply beautiful to deeply aspirational.

The result

The finished scheme at Onslow Gardens is a testament to what Decoroom does best: working to a defined brief while delivering a highly curated, distinctive look. The property was transformed into a welcoming, sophisticated home — one that felt luxurious but never contrived, stylish but entirely liveable.

It’s this balance of precision, creativity, and instinct that defines our work. Onslow Gardens is now not just a beautifully staged property — it’s a compelling lifestyle story ready to be lived.
